kaleidoscope 7 gendang sedunia

Celebrating a growing world of drums, percussion and collaboration

Kaleidoscope 7’s Gendang Sedunia celebrates and embodies growth in the drumming and percussion community highlighting collaboration between groups and cultures, synergizing different percussion instruments, drums, music and playing techniques.

Since Kaleidoscope 1 in 2009 a lot has changed, the industry is richer with new groups, artists, and content. Drummers and percussionists are using their experience, knowledge and skills to embrace the art of composing. More groups and individuals are collaborating. The evolvement of 24 Festive Drums into a contemporary art form incorporating and pairing compositions with a variety of influences from other cultures is evident in the success of Kaleidoscope. It is an attractive platform for new creations, collaboration and audiences.

In view of this we pay tribute to our guest performers the Chongdaoyuan Jiangzhou Drum Troupe from Yuncheng University, China. Way back in 1998, leader of the troupe Mr. Wang Bao Chan was instrumental in teaching HANDS basic drumming techniques, paving the way for where we are today. Our guests also include Sri Maayakarar, Rhythm In Bronze, Teuku Umar Ilany (composer, Gangsapura Gamelan), Kathyn Tan (choreographer), Chia Cheng Kok (NSO), Parker Tee (MPO), Leslie Anak Eli (sape player), Dhiya Suhaili (vocalist), Zamzuriah Zahari (composer), Akademi Arjunasukma (traditional Malaysian art), I Wayan Sudirana (composer) and Gamelan Yuganada.
